German Pork Knuckle Bavarian Schweinehaxen

German Pork Knuckle Bavarian Schweinehaxen

Oh how I miss Bavaria and the delicious crispy German pork knuckle.  This is by far one of my favorite pork recipes and is very sentimental for me.  This recipe is popular in Bavaria and once you’ve tried it you will know why.  The crackle of the exterior paired with the soft, mouth watering, juicy interior and you will be hooked.  So get ready to travel to Bavaria on this culinary adventure and make sure you pop open a Bavarian lager to go with this dish to make it a truly authentic meal.  Also don’t forget the dumplings.  Oh man I’m already hungry. Stollen Recipe With Cheese Authentic German Quarkstollen Rezept

This stollen recipe is an authentic German recipe passed down from my grandmother.  It is called quarkstollen in Germany.  It’s moist and very shelf stable (it does not dry out like a yeast stollen at all).  This recipe features quark, a German farmers cheese.  You can make quark or use substitutes such as cream cheese, ricotta, mascarpone, or crème fraiche.  You can also blend cream cheese and ricotta.  Another benefit of this recipe is that it is fast to make since you use baking powder instead of yeast.  My family always preferred this version for it’s moistness and simplicity to make, a plus when it gets eaten up too quickly like it does in our house! Zimtsterne German Christmas Cookies Cinnamon Stars Or Zimtberge

Zimtsterne, also known as Cinnamon Stars are one of my beloved Christmas cookies.  But it’s not just loved by me, zimtsterne are also one of the most popular of all German Christmas cookies.  Once you’ve tried them you’ll know why.  They are a cross between a macaroon and a meringue but with more flavor.  Cinnamon and nuts are a perfect, heaven made, combination.  Zimtsterne are the perfect cookies for Christmas time with their warm cinnamon flavor and nutty chew.  Plus these cookies keep well for about 2 weeks in a airtight container, but I guarantee they won’t be sitting around long. It’s summertime and what better desert to make during strawberry season than an elegant strawberry torte recipe also known as erdbeertorte rezept in German.  Shortbread, pudding, and strawberries what’s not to love with this strawberry tart recipe.  With a shortbread crust that stays slightly crisp and smooth, creamy vanilla custard topped with fresh strawberries everyone will love this classic dessert.  It’s not as heavy as a cake and perfect for warmer summer weather.  The strawberries in this recipe are bare and that is how I prefer them since the flavor really shines through.  You could glaze them if you wanted to, but it will keep well in the fridge for several days without a glaze.

Kasekuchen German Quark Cheesecake Recipe

This Kasekuchen or German quark cheesecake recipe is distinctly different from American cheesecakes for several reasons.  Quark, a German farmers cheese, is used instead of cream cheese.  It has a milder less bitter flavor.  German cheesecakes tend to be slightly less sweet, probably due to quark being a milder cheese.  You can make your own quark at home.  I have a recipe for it and it is easier to make than you might think.  Read more
