Nutella was invented in Italy after world war II. Due to a cocoa shortage Italian pastry maker Pietro Ferrero came up with this delicious blend. He made a hazelnut paste and added a hint of cocoa. It was a great success as soon as it came out. It started out as a loaf that you slice onto bread. Then in 1951 the consistency was changed into the wonderful spreadable cream we know today. As a kid in Germany I thought it was a German invention but a little research proved me wrong. It was brought to Germany in 1965 and was an immediate hit. Germans love their artisan bread for breakfast and this topping offered something new. It has since spread worldwide.
So easy to make, mix one tablespoon in hot milk and enjoy!
